The takbir and tahmid echoed across Brunei Darussalam, marking the start of the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration. It began with the Sunat Aidiladha Prayer at all mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, joined his subjects in performing the Sunat Hari Raya Aidiladha prayer at Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Kampung Kiarong, 28th May morning.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar, Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara; Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Awang Haji Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Awang Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs; as Chairman of the Executive Committee for Major Islamic Events and Cabinet Ministers.
Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons and brother:
- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office;
- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;
- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen; and
- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
The Sunat Aidiladha prayer was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti in the First Sermon among other things touched on the tests faced must be accepted with sincerity and patience.
The second sermon emphasised the greatness of doa or supplications.
The Sunat Hari Raya Aidilladha prayer not only symbolises obedience to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala but also fosters relations among Muslims.
